How we help Telephone Befriending Service ATTENTION: We currently have a waiting list for our befriending service whilst we recruit further volunteers – contact [email protected] for more information Great news our brilliant online befriending system is now up an running thanks to the Barclays UK Covid-19 Community Relief fund - and our specialist sight loss trained counsellor is already working to deliver the right support to those in need in both one-to-one and group facilitated sessions. We found that during the height of the pandemic that some of our clients had people willing to collect groceries or medication, but very few had someone to talk to. Thus we designed our project with the aim of reducing the devastating impact of isolation and loneliness on wellbeing, improving peoples ability to cope with issues such as anxiety and depression and in turn, increasing the capacity and capability of Focus Birmingham to support those most in need. The funding has enabled us to create our Telephone Befriending System which helps us onboard and match volunteers and befriendees, manage online specialist training for our volunteers and it even schedules the calls. The training and system is designed to capture dips in mental health and wellbeing enabling us to refer to our specialist counselling service. If you know someone who would benefit from a regular chat with one of our amazing volunteers, work together with them to apply and head over to the system now.
