About Us

Focus Birmingham emerged in April 2009, following changes in structure at Birmingham Focus on Blindness. Originally established over 150 years ago, as Birmingham Royal Institute for the Blind (BRIB), Birmingham Focus on Blindness became a separate organisation in 1998, providing various key services to the visual impaired community of Birmingham.

Over 10 years, Birmingham Focus on Blindness established itself as one of the key providers of special support, care, advice and guidance to those with visual impairment and other disabilities, including establishing residential care and day centre facilities, operating home visiting and rehabilitation services, community workers, social activities, transport and information resources.

Focus Birmingham is now a leading provider of specialist care, support, advice and training in all areas of sensory loss and disability. It has also established Focus Enterprises Ltd, a social enterprise, which delivers training, research, education and consultancy services across the UK and Europe. Focus Enterprises Ltd profits are gifted each year to the charity, to enable further services to develop and grow.
